Try using an over the counter antiviral medication. Abreva is one. It is expensive, but it works. Cold sores are caused by a herpes virus. The antiviral medicine stops the virus from replicating, and the cold sore clears up.I have had cold sore /dry skin at left side of lips been using carmex what else would you suggest to make ?

i'm trying these new discs that are for cold sores but i cant tell if they're working yet
